OK anyone know what is wrong with this offering? |
It is my ‘offering’. Please tell me!

Nothing wrong with this "Offering" as far as I can see. This is standard for the Sovereigns Platoon.

Sovereigns platoon as far as I can tell - unless I'm missing something. They do turn up occasionally.

Thanks for the supporting responses so far.
OK so with a J.R.GAUNT LONDON makers mark the RMAS badge dates to production in the late 1950s to early 1970s. Back in the day was it The Sovereign’s Company and has it since been ‘cut’ to a Platoon? Happy to change the eBay description. All publicity is good publicity! Tim |

I picked up about 6 of the Sovereigns platoon cap badges in a surplus store £1 bin years ago. They were all Gaunt BHam marked. |

The gold painting of the badge occurred well after the badge was made
The badge is genuine for 1960s-70s. The Sov Pl did not paint their badges until 2 decades later. Quire simply the gold painting started in the 2000's Sorry but the gold paint is not right for that mark. |
As at 20:00 hours there are 105 views and 6 watchers since listing earlier this afternoon!

Would they not have grabbed any number of badges out of their stores and painted them up, irrespective of age or slider markings, both of which would be of no significance to them?

I was in The Sovreign's Platoon in 1982 and we did not paint our cap badges or have them issued with painted cypher. I only state this as a timeline reference not a comment on the authenticity of Tim's badge.

Simon,
I am with you if the cypher is hand painted then I am not sure the age of the badge is directly relevant. My No1 Dress Jacket was 1960s dated but issued to me in 1981. Quote:

Early 80s the Sovereign's Platoon was identified by the lanyard. |
