Hello all over the weekend my mother-in-law gave me a copy of this below it's of her cousin. My question is what cap badge and or unit patch would he have worn ? Thanks Carl

Anyone with a particular interest in the Kings Regiment is welcome in my private Facebook group “ The Kings Liverpool Regiment ( 1685-1958 )” but there are also lots of pictures and information about the 6th Kings ( Liverpool Rifles ) here on the Forum.

A couple of years ago I found a very important WW1 estate of the Kings to a young officer who after the war became an army chaplain and then Methodist minister and book author ! He typed up about his WW1 memoirs in a huge book (this book not published private) including diagrams of bunkers etc also in his estate is amazing badges and uniform accoutrements.

Plus whilst looking at the pictures I realised that I have 2 sets of these. I thought they were to do with the liverpool buses as they belonged to my dads uncle. Always learning.

This badge was authorised in March 1908 by the W Lancs TF Association. The WO didn't take much notice of TF badges until; 1915. They then authorised it as Pattern no 599/1915. The WO ordered 3,000 of this Pattern.

The next year they renumbered it with a four digit Pattern number to bring it up to all other badges - Pattern 9142/1916.

It's difficult to differentiate between with the dates but I can tell you that there are five dies - including (marked) Lambourne.

Its last iteration was a (marked) Gaunt made batch of 3,228 made between 1944-5.

Probably used by cadets ? - up to the 1960s ?

Definitely used by cadets into the 1940s as OTC and JTC. I think there is a forum member who wore it in the CCF.

That would be me age 17 - Senior Under Officer in Merchant Taylor's School Crosby CCF. Rifle Green beret with black cap badge of the 6th King's Liverpool Rifles. Summer camp at Kitchener Barracks, Chatham July 1969. 52 years ago!
