Airborne or RAC berets worn by Queens Royal Regt (West Surrey)?
 

Would anyone know if members of the of the Queen's Royal Regiment ever wore the black Armoured Corps or maroon Airborne beret during WW2?

Any insights appreciated!

As no battalions of the Queen's were converted to the RAC or glider roles then the answer has to be no.

I have come across a wartime photo, which shows a gent of the Queen's Regt in a dark-coloured (black or maroon?) beret; definitely not khaki/GS beret. Unfortunately, formation patches are not visible.

Could he be an army Commando wearing a green beret?

Or on the staff of an Airborne or Armoured Brigade or Division.

1/6 Queen’s Royal Regiment were in Palestine with 6th Airborne Division in June 1946.
Did they wear the maroon beret?

I would think that's the most likely bet.

As you can see, he is together with a gent from the 2nd South Staffs, 1st Airborne Div. However, whether he is a fellow Airborne soldier or a family member or friend is unknown.

In 1945 a contingent of the 2nd Bn West Surreys, in India "formed the core of a parachute battalion"

The 2nd Bn South Staffs weren't in India, but possibly a link to para training of that West Surreys contingent?
