Was this badge used by the army or Royal Marines?

Its the RAF type isn't it, using the fist?
|
Not RAF as the colours are all wrong. These colours are more Naval than RAF.

Oblong ones were used by the RAOC but not seen a domed version before.

Firstly, this both circle and flashes and fist and flashes were used in WW2 by the Army.
There are many colour combos including red, yellow, blue, white, khaki and brown and often the central device of different colours to the lightening. Circles were official but Fists were not. Domed versions were the first types and oblongs the later type and post war also. The trades were numerous that wore them. Royal Marines Telecommunications Technicians wore them in red and blue but with a circle. Here are some from my collection. regards |
Simon, Impressive collection!

The few I have. I wonder if the example in question in red on blue was produced speculatively by a military tailor for the Royal Marines but neither approved nor worn?

So I am assuming that the Jury is still out then on my badge so won't take it out the frame quite yet. I will take a picture of mine when I open the frame next.
There was an article in the Formation Sign many years ago and may have been a more recent one but with so many unoffical badges and foreign use also obviously very hard to identify. |
