I believe so for WW2, if it were an offices hat it would have cording around the top.

I'm waiting for someone to tell me different but it belonged to a RB SNCO I believe.

I don't know about the Rifle Brigade, but in the KRRC this type of badge was worn by officers.

The KRRC officers corded boss was the same, but red, and nicknamed the "cherry".
