Cheshire Yeomanry of some sort?

1 Attachment(s)
Hi,
The attached shoulder titles, enamelled badge and P of W feathers came with WW1 medals to a Cheshire Regiment guy called Bate, so I guess they are Cheshire related, but what?
I thought Earl of Chesters Yeomanry of some description?
The titles and feathers all have 2 lugs. The enamelled badge is numbered. They have been on that leather piece I would say for quite some time, as they have all left a nice shadow on the leather.
Any help would be appreciated, regards Gary

I may be well out with this, is the enamelled badge a League of Frontiersmen lapel badge?

ECYC = Earl of Chester Yeomanry Cavalry.

Simon,
Thank you very much...will they be contemporary to WW1 or before? Pte Bate was a Territorial so I wonder will I find something in his pre-war service.

Leigh,
I will have a look when I get home, I think there is some wording on the badge but it's a bit rubbed

Earlier than WW1, Its was YC, then IY and then in 1908 just Yeomanry, but soldiers retained them well after their expiry date so who knows when he stopped wearing them.

Hi Simon
Thanks for the reply. I've looked on FMP and he doesnt have any records before WW1 on there other than mention he was a territorial, I'll keep digging who knows what will turn up.

He would only have a service record on FMP for pre WW1 service if he was a member of a Volunteer Service Company in the Boer War or a member of the Militia.

Ah right, do Cheshire Yeomanry records exist anywhere?

Gary - you could try The Cheshire Military Museum, The Castle, Chester perhaps.
