Having a bit of tidy up and found some old pictures of my Cheshire Engineer Volunteer items ( long since disposed of ) but I though the pictures might be of interest as they show the famous " railway engine" collars.

What seems to be little known is that, I understand that there were some Militia Engineers attached to the unit and they wore the same collars but in brass rather than white metal.

What an interesting and informative group ! The railway engine collar badges have always fascinated me and I would agree with you regarding the militia distinction in brass. The same existed with many units where there was a parallel militia presence.

Pretty to watch, lovely collection, where is it now?

Sonofa- sold together with a large Cheshire Regt/Cheshire Rifle Volunteer collection many years ago so no doubt somewhere in someones collection.

The Militia Helmet plate and brass collar were never owned by me but by a collector who lived on the outskirts of Crewe and who I understand sold his collection to Hugh King, again many years ago.

That sounds familiar Peter, HLK bought some great collections in his heyday.

An old thread but thought it the best place to show a Cabinet Card I recently picked up. Not the clearest of images, but showing the Collar badges in wear.

I know this was on the Forum a few years back but I do have a question.
One picture shows the shoulder title ROYAL ENGINEERS 113 ASSAULT
Was this worn by this unit or was it just placed along side the other items??

Jerry,

The display was just Cheshire Royal Engineers, I am afraid I cannot remember if 113 Regiment had a direct connection with either of the two Cheshire Engineer Volunteer units.
