Okay, if the G & R are intertwined at the top = GV, and if the G & R are just touching at the to = G VI.

What about this one???

Not trying to be difficult, just trying to get a grip on this

GRI

GRI = Georgius Rex Imperator - the Royal and Imperial cypher of both George V (GVR) and George VI (GVIR)

Thank you for your response.

Question is - During which reign was this badge worn?

I believe it was worn during the reign of GVR, but that is not anything to do with the style of the Royal Cypher.

Sometimes Royal Cyphers were in different fonts like that one.

The earlier E.African Police badges had the same font but with 'VR&I', a most unorthodox style.

This is not an exact science.
