Nice Canadian Artillery

Hi, picked this wonderful badge up last week. I have a modest Canadian collection but not an expert. I would like to know if this is an officers badge as it has blades and what is the feature above the wheel and below the CANADA scroll? All opinions appreciated.

David,

Its an other ranks badge, commonly called Type 'A'. In Canada the rear fittings are called tangs and are a standard type of fitting.

Its a nice original WW1 period badge often found with a multitude of makers marks on the rear.

Cheers Simon, thank you for the information. The dealer has a few more nice Canadian badges. Nothing rare but honest examples, so will pay another visit soon.

This type of badge was also worn by the pre-1914 Canadian militia, and post First World War as well. It is a bit unusual to see north south tangs.
