Australian Special Operations Command Wyvern

Hi there, hope this is the right place to ask this? I've recently acquired a Special Operations Command patch, which features a wyvern of exactly the same design as that used by the Wessex Division/Brigade/Regiment. My question is. what relevance does the wyvern have, why the wyvern, which has a significant ancient historical relevance to the counties of south western England but surely not Australia? and why a wyvern, when in most western special forces forces either a sword or fighting knife is used for a unit or command insignia? Anyone have any ideas?

Regards

Tony

Hi Tony

Found this on their page (scroll to the bottom of page 4), although it only says what it represents, not why they adopted it:

All the best

Cheers Graham, that's great! interesting they quote it as being a "Welsh" dragon, which as a proud man of Wessex I can state it most certainly isn't! interesting they added a sharks tail too! But I suppose I'm really quite chuffed that they chose the badge of one of the best infantry regiments as their emblem!
