INTERESTING OLD SMITH AND WRIGHT BUTTON

Hello everyone - my name is Miles, I have a few interesting badges and buttons I hope someone can help me with ID . I have an interesting old army button stamped to the rear SMITH AND WRIGHT PATENT BIRMINGHAM which I believe dates it to before or around 1881. It has the Honi soit qui mal y pense motto under Victoria's crown around a central panel with what looks like a Chinese character over a gothic D and G. Any clues anyone?
Thanks.

Hi Miles and welcome to the forum - a photo would help identify the button - but I suspect its a Dragoon Guards button and the Chinese character maybe a roman numeral - or even a K ? For Kings Dragoon Guards - I'm sure the button experts will be able to nail it. Tim
