1st battalion Monmouthshire Regiment

From a job lot of badges. It has a worrying amount of Brasso on the back. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

It's not the 1st Bn. The Dragon is the officers pattern of the 2nd Battalion The officers badge had a scroll beneath,
It was made in brass post WW2 for ORs in what was the TA successor regiment. Post WW2 the 1st Bn were RA wearing the 1st Bn silver wreath cap badge. |

Where does this one fit in? Or is it an entirely different badge? These dragons confuse my aging mind.....what is left of it.
(pardon the photo; the sun has gone down) CB |
That’s the standard pattern worn by all battalions in service dress prior to 1920. The photo is a little blurred but looks to be by F N (Narborough). I have a similar one which has been blackened and is still on the cap which is later than WW1 and would suggest that it was either worn by the 2nd or 3rd battalions as the 1st had changed to their later pattern by that time.

Not saying it’s not a Glamorgan yeomanry, Bryn Owen book Glamorgan yeomanry has its as being worn c1915.The badge was worn by different Welsh regiment in ww1. I have an example in my collection,as the Monmouthshire regiment also used this type of badge. I have lots of photos of the Monmouthshire regiment wearing this badge from 1908, which I think you have seen at Yate. Cheers, Dave |
C'mon boys.
Easiest way it just have two badges one in Glamorgan collection and one in Mons collection saves any issues. Better in Glam collection than those Mons mind you. Ta |

Hi Jon,
Yes not a bad idea one for each collection :):) |
Dave.
It looks better in the flesh as camera dulls down the shine. Is someone bidding on that badge as Mons or Glam as think if listed as Glam maybe it would go for more (who wants to collect Mons !!!). Ta |
I am the current high bidder but who knows now it has been shared here, maybe people weren't looking this close to Xmas but I thought we did not share active ebay items on the forum

Hi Kevin,
Very nice yes boss I think WW1, have got a photo of the 2VBSWB wearing a boss badge at camp Porthcawl c1905 can’t confirm the dragon add photo’s. First photo cWW1 second photo early type c1905. Cheers, Dave |
Thanks Dave,
The dragon on the boss is nearer your WW1 example. If it’s of any relevance my boss is quite large. Do you know what the silver dragon was worn on and when? Hwyl, Kevin |

Hi Kevin,
Only reference I have is the odd photo showing the badge worn early 50s as a beret badge worn by the second battalion .(on the card my badge came with a note from gaunt pattern sept 1952, but I have not seen the pattern card for this badge). Cheers, Dave |

Jonathan,
We’ll have to try and sort out the different colours and sizes for these boss badges between us. Hwyl, Kevin |
Not many fakes in this thread, I can't help thinking that it is the wrong section of the forum and it is certainly most interesting.
