Hello

Can I ask your opinion on this Border shoulder tab being WW2 period please?

I'm thinking post war but a nice example.

Appreciate your opinions

It is postwar, that is why it is still available after all those weeks online.

Thank You for the detailed information.

At least I've got an idea of what I'm looking for now

Many thanks

Most importantly, the letters are applied to the green fabric before it is stitched to the green backing cloth so they are not visible from the rear.

Hi ccfc,

I've attached the "wrong" version that Luc mentioned for reference.
As you can see the letters are stitched through the purple backing cloth.

the example I have, I seem to remember being told it was a 50's version, but I can't remember why as it matches one of those shown by Luc and does not have the lettering showing on the reverse

When I looked into these designations may years ago, the colour of the thread used to join the two arcs was yellow up to 1952 when it changed to green.

are you sure ? WW2 images of this title indicate a dark thread used.

Good evening,

For what it's worth here's a quote from Oliver Lock's "British Airborne Insignia" (page 151):

"From 1942 until 1951, members of the 1st Battalion The Border Regiment
wore a distinctive regimental title.
Correct wartime versions of this title were stitched to the purple backing with green thread."

checking in my copy of when dragons flew, that also says wartime issues were stitched with green thread to the purple backing, in appendix 8 p261

Have no real knowledge on the tab in question, but I do know that on some of the older film, the color yellow would look black or dark in black and white pictures. Not sure if that might apply here or not???
