5th battalion Lincolnshire Regt shoulder title.

The two photographs of this shoulder title used in the description showed only the front and the back of the badge with the backing plate in place.

On receiving the shoulder title and removing the backing plate I am having doubts about it. Can anyone please offer an opinion as to its authenticity?

Thank you.

5th battalion Lincolnshire Regt shoulder title.

The loops look a little strange to me, there are numerous "T" titles online that are all modern copies and are sold as such, none seem to show the reverse and the "feet" can be seen from the front of the title sticking out.

This does not happen on originals as a rule.

Only an opinion Rob

Rob,

thank you for your opinion. It is exactly the footed lugs and their circular shape as well as the lack of patina that makes me think that it is a copy.

Does anyone else have any opinions on this shoulder title?

I think it might be genuine, despite the loops, although its an option that the loops may have been replaced.

I was just about to post the same, the 5 is different from the reference pictures I have of the usual suspects ebay listings. The loops look like cut down split pins with the feet filed flat.

They do look like cut down split pins now that you have pointed it out. I can understand replacing a broken lug with whatever was at hand, but the fact that all three have been replaced strikes me as odd.

I also think that the sharp edges of the back of the badge are a bad sign.

These aren't that old if they are the same.

Those lugs that you have posted are identical to the ones on my shoulder title.

Where are your lugs from?

I believe it's a fake. The lugs are crud and the cast is very poor. Big blob of braze on the back.
I have mentioned this before, why do dealers and private sellers leave the backing plates, or card on when they show the back of the badge. I would send it back, it's not a rare S/T, pity we do not know who the dealer is.
Regards Terry

The seller is not a regular badge or militaria dealer. I saw the badge and checked his other items for sale, none of which were cap badges, before bidding. He has agreed a full return and the shoulder title has gone back for a full refund.

I started this thread believing that the S/T was a dud but wanted independent confirmation from those more knowledgeable than me, in the hope of avoiding any rancour with the seller. He has been very reasonable all through the return process.

Many thanks to everyone who has contributed.

That sounds like a satisfactory outcome. Refunds, and offers to refund, strike me as being honourable, and appear to provide an insurance policy against intentional swindling.
