A recent purchase threw up this strange backing on a POS hatbadge, was this common. Also the RNR shoulder boards are probably WW1 paymaster Lieutenant but why so scarce, they are the first l have ever seen?
Regards Pete

Hi Pembird
I haven't seen that before but there were a lot of little personalisations. Maybe the badge was folding over at the crown and he just wanted to support it.
Cheers,
Alex

Both of those badge lots are stunning. Have you been able to attribute the Rear-Admiral badges?
Cheers,
Alex
