Evolution of Corps of Military Police Badges
 

Hi All,

My collection is of OR cap badges as at 11 Nov 1918. Having read K&K, Gaylor and a number of other sources online, I am still not sure which badges would have been worn in WWI.

My understanding is that at that time there were two separate corps: The Military Foot Police and the Military Mounted Police. They were not merged into the Corps of Military Police until 1926.

There are three forage cap badges that I know of

(A) KK1029 - the Royal Crest above a scroll inscribed "Military Foot Police".

(B) KK1030 - Edward VII's cypher above a scroll "Military Police".

(C) KK1031 - George V's cypher above a scroll "Military Police".

The Foot Police obviously must have worn (A) at some point.

Given that Edward VII reigned from 1901 to 1910, someone must have been wearing badge (B) at the time. It might have been just the Mounted Police, but it might also have been the "new" badge adopted only by the Foot Police. Or they both might have been wearing it.

The George V (C) badge must have come in to replace (B) in 1910, but (A) might still have been worn by the Foot Police.

For all I know, the Mounted Police might have worn helmet plates throughout the war.

SO MY QUESTION IS...

What were the Foot Police and Mounted Police wearing in Nov 1918?

Your MFP badge is a reproduction, its the same as the common ebay sales with the faults in the scroll.

You may have already found the information your looking for but as has been said, have a quick look at my album, I've tried to add information to each badge as best as I can, that should help you.

The MFP badge is believed by the corps museum to be a fantasy badge and as people have mentioned has been discussed many times, if you have a look at that badge in my album (link below) I've added the text the museum curator posted about it.
