Help with Button identification "vollunteers???" NZ???
 

Hello chaps.

I found this button in a bag of odds and sods with the early crown.
Can anyone tell me what the ER stands for.
Attached are some close ups.

New Zealand volunteers possibly??

I am no expert on buttons but that back mark is I believe 20th Century and not Victorian.

The Royal Cypher of ER below a crown is probably for Edward but not the seventh and certainly not as early as the 6th.

It may be for the monarch of a different country.

Just thinking out loud. They may be a simple answer.

Cant see a NZ connection or an Artillery connection.

The only reason I ask is we did use buttons that share the same style and crown during the NZ land wars.
Obviously English in design but sometimes with NZ place names as the cipher.

When I was researching material for my book titled New Zealand Dress Regulations 1852-1909 I found that Corbertts date references to his button section is misleading. I have included a lot of the standard issue buttons from the period with dates etc which are all evidenced based.
