Scots Guards???
 

Just found this forum , i usually collect german items. But after i found a button in the ground at a petrol station,http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...1&d=1279638228 just outside of Hamburg. I have been intersted in dating the button. Hollow Brass button http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...1&d=1279638228, the royal scots or scots guards. More than likely WW2 , no maker, just 4 holes at the rear(n,e,s,w) and 4 wavy lines with a dot under each dip.

I must say I have never come across a button with a back like this one before, I wonder if anyone else has ?

When issued No4 dress (warm weather service dress) I was given a set of rings and, rather than sewing the buttons on, you push them through a hole in the material and loop the rings through the back of the button to keep them in place. This looks very similar.

The design is for the "Scots Guards" and possibly for an Officer due to the unusual back mark.

It's a key ring. That I added when I found it. It's a sew on button I would imagine.

You often find replated buttons having holes , usually two, drilled into the back to allow the solution to drain out and not get trapped inside.

I while back a friend of mine sold a (he thinks) a Lancers button that had a German backmark and the general thought was it was a post war order filled by a german manufacturer as it had German Marks on the back so maybe this was made on the continent post war before 1952
