2 BADGES FOR ID PLEASE!.
 

hello gents ,
can anyone out there please identify these two badges i just got off ebay ,sorry the reverse picture not too good[taken by flash].
the reverse of the "west riding of york:national reserve" badge just has
jr gaunt london on it . the other badge looks like it could be of interest ,the front has A R on it and 1902 plus what appears to be the royal coat of arms,
the reverse has in large lettering "FROM THE QUEEN" and below that is
"regd no392317".
any help on either or both would extremely useful.

I would guess that the second one was given out by Queen Alexandra, wife of Edward VII, who was crowned in 1902.

No idea why she would be giving out badges though.

It could be to do with the Childrens foundation she was in charge of... they even gave out medals to some IIRC.....

hello gents,
after a lot of time on the computer looking up this badge/type of badge etc. this is what i discovered.
west riding of york : national reserve.
to prevent the wearer being given a white feather[a sign of cowardice].
there is a requirement under the geneva convention to differentiate soldier from civilian.
at times of mass enlistment,when uniform was in short supply,the lapel badge was considered to be the uniform in it`s own right. this particulary
applied to the volunteer training corps, national reserve and veteran reserve.
