Assorted badges (15th hussars, buffs, RGA, remounts)
 

Hello all,

New member. I have come across from the GWF.

I have a very small collection of cap badges as representative examples of regiments various uncles, great uncles and grandkids parents served with.

I am curious as to how many are genuine or reproduction.



The first 3 badges I got cheap at a car boot from the same person so if repro, that’s fine. The others from militaria fairs over the years.

1. Remounts. Not sure amount this one, it’s die cast, I think repro?

2. East Surrey regiment. Has had a crude solder repair to the slider - I think genuine badge, DIY repaired?

3. RGA revolving wheel type - slider is clipped short (possibly to repair the east Surrey above?). I think genuine?

4. RGA non-revolving wheel - I think genuine?

5. 15th Hussars - die cast, not sure. It is bimetal. I hope genuine!

6. Kings own. Die cast aswell, I think genuine?

7. Two types of ‘The Buffs’ both slightly different (ww1 or ww2??). Not sure, I hope genuine.

Thank you for your assistance. These are just a small display with my Tower of London poppy so rarity value etc is less important than representation of the regiments. I have paid much for any of them, I think the 15th hussars was most expensive at about £15

The Remounts is die stamped construction and is fake. Originals of this pattern were die cast.

Both gun badges are Royal Artillery, there was no separate badge for RGA. Your single piece badge is a tall orb fake.

Others are all genuine.

Alas it is fake also. Had it been genuine it would’ve been snapped up off eBay in a heartbeat as the £39.99 buy it now price would be a bargain.

Thanks Luke. Will keep an eye out at militaria fairs then, what should I expect to pay for a genuine one? I presume £70+?

The 3 designs of Remounts badges are a bit of a mystery as the Remounts were part of the Army Service Corps and none of the 3 designs were officially sealed. As far as I can find there is no official mention of these badges. If any one has any photos of any of them being worn then I would be interested to see them.

This man was Remounts and is clearly wearing the ASC cap badge.

Alan, That's a great link and I read through it with much interest. I was not really aware of what he Remount Service was all about, but now have a much better idea. And of course for me, the ladies who served make it of even more interest to me. Perhaps one to pursue down the line.

Great link, I think it was a similar thread on GWF that pointed me to this forum.
One of my great uncles was a remount in the Great War, as he was an old cavalry soldier when the war broke out so volunteered for remounts in Bristol. Stayed there the whole war

I should think a dealer would certainly charge around £65-75, if not more for that type.

The BM type Remounts is far more common and much more reasonably priced.

I thought you might like to see this one?

Also, I asked about this one before, but got no reply. What are people thoughts on it?
