North Nova Scotia Highlanders
I am seeking badges and medals which belonged to Col. Donald F. Forbes, DSO and Bar, 1939-45 Star, Africa Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, CVSM and Clasp, Coronation Medal (1953), and Canadian Efficiency Decoration. His command of the North Nova Scotia Highlanders from Normandy into Germany in 1944-45 was legendary, as documented in Will R. Bird's book "No Retreating Footsteps" Hantsport NS, Lancelot Press. He was my father's brother and passed away as CO of Camp Petawawa in 1957. His medals and badges etc disappeared from his widow's home in Montreal in the early 1960s. Several members of the family have tried over the years to track these items down without success. An appropriate repository would be the North Nova Scotia Highlanders Regimental Museum in Amherst NS. If anyone has information on availability of these items, we would very much like to recover them so that they could be put on display.
