The AA Command Sign

2 Attachment(s)
A Forum member drew to my attention that the AA Command sign shown on page 47 of the Calico Printers issue of The Formation Sign is an unusual variation with the arm on the right hand side - 1st example below - and not on the more usual left as shown on the second example.

Does anyone have an example of the printed first pattern sign with the arm on the left with the curved bow and the dots - ie the facing pair to the first one shown - typical of the Calico products that they could share? I do not appear to have recorded that sign so far.

Mark, Any idea why there would be variants to the first pattern? Surely there is not a lot of wear on the printing block, or were they made in more than one location? Yours and mine make three variants.

From I.W.M

"There are many variations of the badge, with different patterns of hands and variations on how the torse was depicted. There are also versions where the arm is on the right, which has led to suggestions that in some cases the badge could have been worn as facing pairs. However, as this appears to be heraldically incorrect, this and the other variations are more generally considered to be merely manufacturers' errors or variations. "

Thanks for the update Mike. All to the good for expanding the knowledge. Regards, David J.
