Good God!

I have been buying these dated poppy badges at a rate of one a year ever since I first noticed them for sale on ebay. About three quid each.

2008 is the earliest of the nine I have. If only I had known I would have got 100 not one.

I expect that this means I will never get the earlier years that I now know exist.

I think that depends on how savy your friends are and how many have previous years pins tucked away in their man drawers that they might be willing to donate to a friend's collection :D

I have now only 2 years to locate - 2008 & 2009 and as you say Shiny, eBay is not the only source and friends & contacts sometimes do indeed have one lurking in a drawer, and picked up a 2006 example on a simple trade for some later pins.

I do in fact have several dozen of all 2011 and onwards pins ;-) as stock returns via the Poppy Appeal, and all proceeds go back into the appeal.

Real or Fake ?

Hi ,

I'm ex army (Artillery) and collect various poppy pins , especially the "Centenary" ones.

I have all 4 of the "Provenance metal" ones , I thought that using old artillery fuses to make objects to commemorate those who died to be very touching and appropriate.

I recently saw online a 2018 poppy ( not the usual 1918-2018 one) and was not sure if it was a genuine item issued/sold by the RBL or simply a fake/counterfeit ?

Any help/advice would be appreciated as there are so many people trying to cash in on the "Centenary".

Will post some photos of my collection at a later date.

Thanks

Mike V

Fakes ?

Have just seen another couple of "dodgy" pins , these are dated:
1912-2012
1913-2013

As I can see no reason why the "double dates" would be of any significance , other than to cash in on 'Centenary' , I have to assume they are another case of fakes being produced to con people.

I have contacted the RBL and given them details so they can take action over the obvious copyright breeches.

Leather Poppies

Although I prefer the enamel poppy pins I think the two leather versions are quite good .

The "Centenary" one comes in a small box and the "Thank You" one comes in a 'display' box complete with certificate.

I have a collection of dated Poppy Pins from 2006 to 2018 and am looking to sell them as a collection and am wondering if anyone knew the value of them?

I'm in the process of organizing my collection , will make an album when I get finished.

In the meantime here are a few "sets" :

1. Standard Poppies - Still looking for 2006 , 2007 and 2008.

2. Bikes and Scooters - Ride of Remembrance had 1000 scooters in 2018 , money raised goes to RBL.

3. Isle of Wight - Nice set issued by Shanklin/Ventnor Branches.

A couple more :

4. London Underground/TFL.

5. Buses and Tube trains.

From one of the staff involved ;

"We commissioned and produced the badges with our own money, had get seek approval from internal departments within TfL, as well as getting approval from the Royal British Legion to use the poppy design."

These badges aren't sold in stations , they are predominately for TFL/LU staff and all profits go to RBL. When I have bought them either the seller has made a donation or I have.

Thanks for showing these, I did not know about the Isle of Wright pins but I have just found a set on you know where, quite cheap, so will add to my collection soon.

Can anyone tell me if this is a genuine RBL issued / approved pin or simply one made for show/profit ?

It was in a 'job lot' and cost about £4.
