Only one man appears to be wearing the Kilt. Looks cold there!
Note their rifles are the old long Lee Enfield, not the SMLE. To be expected in a territorial battalion I suppose.

Lee Metford Rifles ... on more than one occassion whilst firing on the ranges myself I had cause to reverse my beret, just to assist with shade.

When looking at Boer War photographs you also often see the sun helmet reversed when firing.

Note the charger bridge, not found on the Lee Metford, but on the long Lee. I believe some Metfords were modified with a bridge later, but it is most likely these men have the long Lee.

Unless things were way more relaxed on the ranges at the time the photo was taken, I’m assuming it’s a staged “photo op” for the C.O. The fires are all too close together, one man appears to be waiting for the photographer to say “1, 2 3,...... and why would the photographer be in front of the firing line?..... OK, I’m being picky! Kudos for the eagle eyes out there naming the rifles.
