Lee Metford Rifles ... on more than one occassion whilst firing on the ranges myself I had cause to reverse my beret, just to assist with shade.

When looking at Boer War photographs you also often see the sun helmet reversed when firing.

Unless things were way more relaxed on the ranges at the time the photo was taken, I’m assuming it’s a staged “photo op” for the C.O. The fires are all too close together, one man appears to be waiting for the photographer to say “1, 2 3,...... and why would the photographer be in front of the firing line?..... OK, I’m being picky! Kudos for the eagle eyes out there naming the rifles.
