Stanley & Aylward mark

An auction for an extremely rare CEF artillery badge is currently running on ebay. Featuring the King's County PEI Seige Artillery Draft, the badge has tangs which are marked Stanley & Aylward Toronto. (The authenticity of the badge is not at question.) Does anyone else have any tangs marked to Stanley & Aylward?

Bill,

You say the authenticity of the badge is not in question.

I would have reservations as she has recently advertised several fake CFA numbered battery badges for sale and it has been commented so on this forum.

Is it not possible that the fakers are moving a step up and adding 'rare' makers marks to tangs?

Hello Simon, There is nothing on this badge that raises my suspicions. The overlay appears to be correct, and there are not any tell-tale signs on the reverse.

Bill,

I guess I am ultra suspicious over this series of CFA badges, there are so many fakes.

I have not seen this maker, but I have a CANADA banner CFA badge with "R.J. INGLIS LIMITED" stamped into the top tang.

Understood Simon. With all the crap out there, one has to be very careful. Especially with pricey badges.
Thanks for the note on the CFA badge. There are three tangs on that example?

Mine is marked on the reverse on the wheel.

Tangs are NS x 2:)

Bill A 22-11-15 07:12 PM

Rob, clarification, the Stanley & Aylward mark is on the wheel? Does the mark include Toronto?

mad4thcef 29-01-16 12:54 AM

That would be correct!

I just saw this researching a military pin which was passes down from my grandmother. It looks like a sweetheart pin for the 217th overseas battalion. The back is marked "Stanley & Aylward" in text only. I tend to believe this is authentic because my grandfather served in the 5th Batallion CEF in WWI after being transferred from a similar batallion (152nd) which was formed in the same general area as was the 217th in southern Saskatchewan. That was in 1916. He may have brought that back at the time, or my grandmother may have been given this by an aquaintence at the time. If you are still interested, i have photos of both sides of the pin, for your reference.
