Singapore Armoured Corps (or Car) Volunteer badge

Here's a recent addition to my collection. The seller on eBay described it as a "Armoured Car Squadron" badge. Does anybody has experience/knowledge of Singapore badges that could enlighten me or share a link? This one appears to be made by welding/soldering the SAC(V) part to a "Fear Naught" badge. Is that typical?

A very nice badge. Maybe an early locally made badge?

The KC version (see mine here: https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...4&d=1583027473) seems to have been one piece.

Looks like I need to add a QC one to my collection as well.

Oh my! I didn't even notice that there are different crowns around. I thought it was some artistic discretion. So the QC sort of has the "m" shape and KC has one arch? I just realized I have NZ Armoured badge with KC and another with QC. Does the crown signify the time frame (i.e. who rules the country)? Or is it more complicated than that? My knowledge of British royalty comes from The Crown on Netflix.

But I like your badge! I was looking for one like yours when this popped up so I snatched it. An interesting piece for sure!

The Queen's Crown is post 1953 (Queen Elizabeth II) while the King's Crown was worn by both King George V and VI. My guess is that yours is a 1950s one made up from stocks of Royal Tank Regiment badges that came from the UK. If you ever want to trade or sell it please let me know. :)

Hi Mikhail, unfortunately I think your badge may be made up. there are two reasons for this, firstly the badge is from a common die which is of the second version of the queen's crown, for want of any other description, the fat crown. If you look at Q/C RTR badges you will see the earlier crown is a slimmer and slightly squatter version. Secondly the attached scroll is not very well matched to the underlay. The Q/C version could only have been in use for 3 or 4 years maximum. My version is made by J R Gaunt London and slidered.
Hi Mick, is it possible to have images or your SVC badges? mine is based on the reverse tank made by F&S. Also if possible could you photo the Malayan armoured corps badges, I've never seen them with armour on the title, best wishes and hope this helps, Mike

Thanks for your input, Mike!

Hi Mikhail, thank you and sorry to be the bearer of bad news, I may be wrong but I doubt it. It is always difficult with these small units to make a qualified judgement, as often you only ever see one example. That is one of the joys of this forum that you get to see other peoples badges which you would never normally encounter. Hope you still continue to enjoy your hobby, best wishes Mike

Hi Mike,

I'll send you an email with pics later today.

Here's an update photo of my badges.

It's interesting on the KC badge with lugs how the scroll has also been overlaid over a KC RTR badge.

The crossed swords and wreath yellow on green looks like Greek Armoured units collar badge? They were yellow in the 80's and 90's but are now black on OG, similar worn in Cyprus.

Hi Sean, thank you for that I'm sure you are right. God knows where I got that attribution from, thanks again and best wishes Mike

The person who sold me the badge had this piece of info attached. I think it helps with time frame. S'pore Military Forces (S'pore Annual Report 1955)

The establishment and maintenance of land forces for the defence ans security of the Colony of S'pore is provided for in the S'pore Military Forces Ordinance, 1953 which had been operative since 27th Apr 1954. The Force stems from the S'pore Volunteer Corps (SVC) founded in 1854 and carried with it the traditions and proud record of over 100 years of voluntary military service in S'pore. The SMF raised and maintained at the expense of the Colony was commanded by an officer seconded from the regular army, assisted by a small permanent administrative and instructional staff.

There are 10 units in the SMF, excluding the Headquarters, and these comprised:

1. S'pore Armoured Corps (Volunteers)
2. S'pore Royal Artillery Coast Battery (Volunteers)
3. S'pore Roal Artillery (Fire Command Battery) (Volunteers)
4. S'pore Royal Artillery (Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment) (Volunteers)
5. S'pore Royal Artillery (Coast Artillery) (Volunteers)

In 1957 the first regular battalion, known as the 1st Battalion, S'pore Infantry Regiment (1 SIR) with the regimental motto "Yang Pertana dan Utama (First and Foremost)" was raised and accommodated in temporary barracks in Ulu Pandan.

In 1962 the second regular battalion, the 2nd Battalion, S'pore Infantry Regiment was formed.

The organisation of the SMF was as follows:

1. Brigade HQ, including HQ Company, Ordnance and Provost Section (Regular)
2. 1 SIR (Regular)
3. 2 SIR (Regular)
4. 1st Regiment, S'pore Volunteer Corps (Volunteer)
5. 1st Regiment, S'pore Royal Artillery (Volunteer)

Oh, no problem! I'm happy to have it even if it's a fake or a copy. Of course it is always nice to hold a piece of history in your hand.
