I have had this one a few years, no real idea on date or for which service/corp/rank it was intended.

The lining looks quite low quality and the chinstrap buckle looks handmade, but many of the examples I found online are no better, though some have loveley padded crowns in red satin or silk.

I did post it on the Victorian wars forum and it pass muster and was said to be Derbyshire Yeo, though it does not actually match them or any other regiment or corps I can find. The braid band most closely matches that for Field Marshals & General officer according to the copy of the dress regs I have.

Thanks Luc. I did search there, it really is a mine of useful information, though mostly covering the cavalry. I saved some of the illustrations of the pill box caps from there, they are beautifully done.
