FRENCH FOREIGN LEGION 5REI (TYPE II – SILVER MODEL) BADGE
 

I have only ever seen photos of this model which I believe was worn between 1949 – 51. Superficially this badge matches all the photos I have looked at; being painted with the correct Drago markings and even the ‘blob’ rear centre. However its pristine condition given its age and that it appears to be made of a light alloy metal (easily bendable) in addition to the shape of the ‘lug’ fasteners on the rear (which I believe are of a later style) make me doubt its authenticity.

I know Drago produced restrikes of this badge in 1964 and 1974 for SHILE but I don’t know if these editions were unmarked or dated with an ‘R’.

Can anyone confirm if this is a genuine example or a restrike?

Thanks for that Herve. I thought it was a bit cheap and nasty to be a genuine period Drago badge.
