ID RAF arm eagle?
 

Can anyone help with identifying this RAF arm eagle? In more than 50 years of collecting, I have never seen this type before.
The badge was found by a civilian employee at RAF base (B.160) Kastrup, Denmark in the later part of 1945.

I'm afraid its nothing surprising! its a standard silk on rayon RAF shoulder eagle as issued from about 1941 as an economy measure over the silk on wool badges. Yours has been dyed, the silk threads picking up the dye better than the rayon which is why the eagle appears darker. It was probably on a battledress that was dyed for another reason, the oat coloured hessian back also taking on the dye.

Many thanks for your reply, yes I agree, this seems to be a logical explanation. The Danes used British BD in the 40’s and 50’s and some were dyed dark or navy blue.

A vague memory tells me that POWs had dyed battledress but I may be wrong on that. Might have just been a work jacket or simply surplus given a new lease of life in some way. But it makes you wonder why they didnt bother to remove the insignia!
