It is a collar badge, they are not common, but they are not £680 scares plus fees.

It was disappointing to see this particular (Kent based) auction house list it as a "Cap Badge."

Agreed, I sold one a while back, to I think a forum member, but not for that sort of money.

When I think of the number of these collars that I have owned over the years including the much scarcer gm examples worn by members of the Militia Engineers attached to the Volunteers i wish I had kept them now but hindsight is a great thing.

Here are mine, left & right collar badges - not quite the same pattern, which I paid £40 for one and £60 for the other a few years back.
