19th Hussars Bronze
 

Hi,
Have now got the time to check through some of my badges. Sadly found a few, with the help of the forum, which have turned out to be duds.
However, I have this one I am unsure of. It definitely meets the criteria of a genuine 19th Hussars badge even down to the supporting hairpin slider. It is definitely bronzed on a brass badge and not discoloured or stained.
Is it another variation for the OSD ?

I strongly suspect it is a discoloured OR's badge.

I don't think that is an OR's badge, but really is an OSD badge. Note the thickness of the metal which is not the usual, and of course the bronze metal itself underneath the finish.

Looking at the third photograph on the righthand side, it does certainly appear to actually be die cast.

Thanks for the responses. Alan, it is definitely not a discoloured OR's badge, as the bronze coating has rubbed away at the high points to show the brass/gilding metal badge below.

I'll leave it in my collection as an OSD variant for now, unless someone else has more knowledge on this badge.

I'm afraid I'm not convinced this is an OSD badge, I think the construction is a little crude, the slider does not look right even though its been doubled over 'hairpinned' and I have to say the only 19H OSD badges I have ever seen have had blade fixings.

It could I suppose be something the Regiment had produced during WWI which has gone unrecorded, but think more than likely spurious. Happy to be proved wrong though.

For me, this badge would be a keeper. It just does not say fake to me. There were odd anomalies with regard to OSD badges in ww1.

I have a badge that had me confused as to why it is Black or is it a fake ?

I am not as comfortable with this badge as I am with the first one that started this thread. It appears to be a fake OR badge that has been blackened; but of course I could be completely wrong as is all to often the case!

It’s a fake identical to the one in the Martin Marsh catalogue. The overly large end pearls on the coronet which overhang on the left but are underhung right, also the tips of the crosses top do not protrude enough.
