These Numerals Eight and One what are your opinions are these WW1 or another period also British or Australian ??

They look like WW1 Australian to me.

Thanks for the reply . I was concerned about the back of the eights and the shape of the one?

Quite possible that the eights were made in UK being blackened brass and with the hex type lugs. The ones look ok to me.

Took a while for the orders regarding abolition of corps letters and unit numerals to be effected, they never really ceased so not unreasonable to suppose that orders were placed in UK at various times. Lots of blokes found their way to UK via wounded at Gallipoli before the main body of the AIF started moving into Europe. There was also 8 and 9 Coys AASC, and the siege brigade there early.

i will go with the 1s being ok australian however i wouldn't class the 8s as aussie with those lugs.
as keith said, possible but in my opinion a good gap filler or keeper until i got a standard type lug
