Button ID Question.

I can imagine that there are several members who collect military buttons.
Recently, I have been collecting a sampling of buttons to represent the owner companies of First World War HMNZT ships. Of course, these are not military buttons, but often come in job lots with Service buttons when offered by dealers on online auction sites.
I have recently bought such a collection, albeit small, to obtain the buttons I needed.
A search on google provided the IDs I was seeking, but one button has me stumped so it is to here that I come seeking help.
Attached are two likenesses of the button that seems to have two indicators that this button is possibly German in origin. The Gothic letters D and E and the Maltese Cross flag.
Any help in identifying this button would be much appreciated.
Many thanks.
Bruce

Hi Bruce

According to Squires “Buttons: A Guide for Collectors” Pl. 85 #4, this is Harrison Line, with the initials of the Company’s motto “Pro Deo Et Patria” (God and country).

All the best

Graham

Hello Graham.
Many thanks for the helpful information you have provided.
My guess of perhaps being of German origin was way off.

I appreciate your help.

All the best.
Bruce
