Gurkha Felt Hat
4 Attachment(s)
A fairly modern example of the Felt hat worn by Gurkha troops. They have not changed much since their inception, though I recently saw a Boer War picture that showed them wearing an example with a press stud to hold up the brim on one side which must pre date the inception of the more typical type which does not have a popper as the brim is not usually worn folded up. Another feature that differentiates them from the more commonly seen type of slouch hat is the use of a double thickness of material material which can be seen on the edge of the brim, which is done by sewing two hats together.

The final sentence above is confirmed by John Masters (4 GR) in his book "Bugles and a Tiger". Mike
