WW2 Royal Airforce Pathfinder Badge
2 Attachment(s)
Hello. I have recently come across this brass Royal Airforce Pathfinder Badge - eagle? It has two pins on the back that bend inwards, and a separate brass plate. It was attached to a ladies crocodile leather clutch bag. Can anyone please give me some information about it. I have seen many of these badges but not ones with the two pins and a plate. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you! Nina |

This eagle is a fairly common variant of the officers economy FS cap badge. The backplate on yours appears to have had the upper portion, where the crown would attach, removed leaving just a small portion of it behind. Attached is a pic where you can see the crown with bend over tags
The badge referred to as the "pathfinder badge" was, in reality, any of the various right facing eagles available - whether pin-back, lugged, screw pillars or could even be the item you have shown. The only thing that actually made it a pathfinder badge was the position it was worn, on the uniform left breast pocket flap. The second pic shows the crown and eagle with bend over tabs. Dave |
