Isle of Ely Home Guard

According to the various published books etc, the Isle of Ely Home Guard wore 'ELY' as a title, whereas the rest of the county wore 'CAM' (as pictured). The latter title is reasonably common but I have yet to see one for Ely. Did it actually exist?

Stephen.

PS- the pictured items are surplus to my requirements. PM me if interested.

Whilst I can't comment on the shoulder titles, its worth bearing in mind that the County of the Isle of Ely was, from a local government point of view, NOT part of the County of Cambridgeshire. They were two distinct Counties. It was only in the 1960's that the Isle of Ely became part of Cambridgeshire.

Dave,

I cannot disagree, but militarily they were the same area. That not withstanding there is an official listing for 'ELY', as there is for all the various areas of Lincolnshire, but none of those titles were produced either: they all wore the Imp instead.

A quick email to a member of the Military Heraldry Society who collects Home Guard produced the attached ELY/3. He also has worn examples of ELY/1 and ELY/2 so the badge did exist.

Jon,

Thank you. Your help appreciated.

If anyone sees one for sale anywhere I would appreciate a 'heads up'.

Stephen.
