Australian Intelligence Corps 1912 to 1918 does any body know anything about them ? Or seen there hat,collar badges or shoulder title??

No mate missed out .......... but i have never seen or heard of these before and cant find anything about this unit from WW1 , thought maybe the full time badge collectors may have.

Found an old Australian Army Intelligence Corps facebook page , no posts but did have this info:

It was formed on 6 December 1907 and provides intelligence personnel in every formation headquarters in the Army., the corps consisted of "169 officers and 232 other ranks"

The corps was disbanded on 30 September 1914 and replaced by Intelligence Sections of the General Staff in each Australian military district ,it was re-formed in 1939.

i have only seen one and it was Monashs held at the AWM.

Beautiful badges, bad luck you missed out.

Cossum lists the badges in his green covered book 2 as photo 100 on page 33, its under the 1900 - 1912 section and rated as $EXT RARE. The hat is 55mm high and the collars as 29mm and are said to be of an Identical design to the hat and the finish as Enamel on brass and the shoulder title as AIC.

By 1908, a true (albeit very small) Australian Intelligence Corps (officers only) did exist as part of Australia’s Citizen Military Force. The Corps uniform was authorised by Military Order 336 of 1908, which laid down the Corps colour as pale blue. As a mounted combatant Corps, the service dress was the same as that of the Australian Light Horse.

Pale blue gorget patches were worn on the collar of the tunic and, from photos of the era, it is clear these had a centre stripe, probably black. The order directed that the Corps would wear the Commonwealth pattern buttons, ‘AIC’ shoulder titles and ‘Regimental’ collar and hat badges. The dimensions of the badges are: Hat - enamel on brass, 55mm in height; Collar - 29mm. Both manufactured by Stokes and Sons, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

Photographic evidence, taken around 1911, appears to confirm that the unit personnel did indeed wear their own cap and collar badges – although whether these extremely rare badges were ever properly approved remains a bone of contention amongst historians.
