Have barely a clue (I'm ashamed to say!)
Hello all,
I was wondering if anyone might be able to help me out with details from any of the insignia in these two photos? I know my Grandad served latterly in the Highland Light Infantry; and was wondering perhaps if the patch on his sleeve (shield with [perhaps] St. Andrew's cross?) in the second picture maybe tallies with that? -Though I've scoured a lot of pictorial lists and not found it. Haven't the foggiest about the first picture, I'm sorry to say. Thanks for any help you can offer. Rob. http://geekystuff.co.uk/Louis1.jpg http://geekystuff.co.uk/Louis2.jpg |
Hello Rob, welcome to the Forum. Your account is active and open for posts.
The first image is that of a Gunner in the Royal Artillery. He wears a service dress tunic under the greatcoat, suggesting pre-Second WW or First WW. |
Fine pics, first is Royal Artillery and probably inter wars or possibly very early WWII. The collars badges where not often worn during WWI.
The other is post autumn 1942 as he is wearing the austerity 40 pattern Battledress with Scottish (lowland) insignia I think. |
No images show up to me.

St Andrews cross of the 52nd Lowland Division on a Mackenzie tartan patch of the Highland Light Infantry above a red infantry arm-of-service strip.
Open Battle Dress collar plus tie suggests 1945 or post war photo. Rgds, Thomas. |
