Double-headed eagle badge
 

Hi All,
The recent Russian badge thread has prompted me to dig out this one, measures 35x21mm and is 10mm deep, probably worn at front of a cap.
Is it Russian?

Could be any one of the former Soviet/baltic states, they on the berets at least have a distinguishing coloured pennant to distinguish country.

Another possibility is a Balkan state, Serbian?

Very possible, the eagle is a common motif to that area. :D

Russian Badge
 

The badge is that of the House of Romanov. The central shield portrays St George slaying the dragon and I think this is Imperial Russian in origin worn during the time of the Tsar. Clearly it has been modified at some time for wearing somewhere different to that originally intended. Sadly I do not have any books of reference for this Country or period but someone out there will.

Just a thought the anchor could make it navy, perhaps when the navy changed they also IIRC changed uniforms so perhaps the badge was altered to suit a different hat??

Yes, I wondered about the anchor. We've just seen the film "The Admiral", set in WW1 and Russian Revolution times but the naval officers were wearing the oval type badge.
