RAF Officer Enquiry

I need the assistance of the forum please.

I would like details of a RAF officer Ronald C RIDOUT circa 1940s-50s. Maybe he was with the RAF Regiment but not sure.

I have an item of headdress with his name in and would like to find out more about him please.

Thank you for looking and any information

Keith

Keith,

Could this be your man?:

Not sure precisely what you're after but just to add... there is a birth under the name of Ronald C. Ridout, at Poole, in the June quarter of 1933 (mother's maiden name, Hawkins), and a marriage under the same name at Ealing, in the December quarter of 1956 to an Audrey Heather.

The two entries are for the same man. The gazette entry quotes him as a cadet pilot. He must have served full time and when retired was then commissioned as a Flying Officer in the RAFVR. This would suggest he served on an Air Experience Flight as a pilot.

There is also some info about this chap on Ancestry, including photos, posted by other family members. If it's the same person, it appears he may have passed away in 2011.

Thank you for the quick and detailed replies.

I don't think this is my man, please let me explain. The name Ronald C RIDOUT is inside the liner of a Aden Protectorate Levies tropical helmet, the helmet also has a RAF (?) pagri flash.

I know from 1942 the APL were officered by the RAF Regiment and presume, rightly or wrongly, that RIDOUT was an RAF Officer?

A couple of images of the helmet attached, I would welcome your thoughts...

Enjoy the hobby, Keith

Keith,

I don't suppose the likelihood of there having been more than one 'Ronald C. Ridout' who served with the RAF, can be too high. A name like that is an absolute gift for any would-be genealogist too.

Nice Bombay Bowler, by the way. Thanks for posting.
