St Albans School OTC

I have a pair of shoulder titles for St Albans School OTC , but i am trying to find out what cap badge they might have used.
if i understand right they might have used the 28th London ( Artists Rifles ) badge, but not sure of this.
But if that is the case Berkhamstead School OTC used the Hertfordshire Regiment badge if i understand correct, and Haileybury college used a version of the Bedfordshire Regiment badge.
Also was there other OTC units in Hertfordshire, if so does any one have information or images for where they were from in Hertfordshire, what schools or collages had units or put me onto a web page that might have this information.
have looked on google but cant find much information.
if any member has more information or even better images of what badges were used for any of the other Hertfordshire OTC it would be a help.
many thanks Andy.

Hi Andy,

I did a bit of googling for you and, to quote Bonhams, "St Albans (Wore Herts Regt cap badge in black)"

Hope this may be of some help.

St Albans School

For anyone interested in Herts Cadet units I would recomened buying a copy of John Sainsbuy's book.

Hello :)

As Stephen says, a good book to get would be "Hertfordshire's Army Cadets" by J. D. Sainsbury. ISBN 978-0-948527-11-1. There is some excellent material in this book and is illustrated throughout with photos. Also I would recommend a trip to Hertford museum where they have a small collection, including the elusive Hertford Grammar School OTC cap badge (to me anyway)

Hope this helps,

Andy

Here you go Andy, I agree with the comments on Sainsbury's book by the way, excellent. It's not just you Andyh either, I can't find a Hertford school badge anywhere!!!
Wilf.

Always great to see your badges Wilf :) I might have my old blazer badge, being an old Hale boy :D :p

Andy, be careful when trying to locate a Berkhampsted School cap badge as it is very similar to the Hertfordshire Yeomanry.

This is my Haileybury cap badge. Notice that it is HAILEYBURY & I.S.C. C.C.F.

The Imperial Service College and Haileybury school merged in 1942. The OTC was a JTC by then and the CCF badge would date from post WW2. I have never seen a Haileybury JTC or a Haileybury &ISC JTC badge but they might exist.

Yes that's the one!! Nice badge and my old school although it is now just known as Richard Hale. They still wear this badge (minus the scroll) on the blazer until the 5th form (that's what it was in my day) and then they wear the hart.

The only other one of these that I have seen is in Hertford museum, but I don't think that they will let me have it :(

The school photo album shows brass badges in use in the interwar years and well into the 1950s before changing to RA.: https://www.flickr.com/photos/stalba...2082/lightbox/

The s/ts are also in brass rather than blackened.
