Dave this is just a taste of your fine "collection"
I look forward to see more, especially your recent tank badge purchase as it is truly a unique badge.

Thanks Wayne - interesting to compare HP photos - apart from the obvious there are also subtle differences.

Thanks for the encouragement Brent. I used to think I knew quite a bit but having met you, others and forums like this realie both how little I know and the synergistic value of sharing knowledge.

To that end two questions re this 4th Battalion Otago Territorials Rifles badge I acquired a while ago:
1) Does it strictly "go" with the "Rifle Volunteers" or is it a different era?
2) How would I safely clean it to look more like one recently on Trademe that looks outstanding?

IMO it is a transitional badge that was most likely made in 1910.
As such it would fit in as a 4th Battalion Otago Rifle "Volunteers" badge, or you could display it as a "Territorial" badge of the 14th Regiment South Otago Rifles.

In regards to cleaning I would suggest giving it to Rodger he has the skills to make it look perfect, or you could try Ceraclen Silver Dip which also works brilliantly on brass and copper.

Thanks Brent. Tried the Ceraclen Silver Dip. Here are the before and after shots:

Hello Dave,

A very impressive New Zealand collection you have. Thanks for sharing.

One of these days I must arrange my own collection in a similar fashion.

Cheers, Tinto
