Help needed to identify regiment from ancestors photo
 

Hi Members,

My husband has been given a photo of one of his ancestors, as we are tracing the family tree. We have no idea who the gentleman is on the photo, so was wondering that id the uniform and badge could be identified, that we would be able to narrow the search for his ancestor. At first we thought it was a Police Officers uniform, but the badge on the helmet and the epaulettes looks like it could be military.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated
