Royal Logistic Corps Bandsman Helmet Plate
 

Hello All

I have recently picked up the helmet plate sized badge pictured below. It is identical to the Royal Logistic Corps Bandsman Helmet Plate and is the correct size for a HP but on the reverse of the plate there are 2 bendable blades as opposed to the usual 3 lugs that I would expect to see on a bandsman's helmet plate. Can anyone confirm that these plates were also issued with 2 bendable blades or is this badge for a different purpose?

I cant confirm as to whether it was worn or not.
But i find it very strange that they have gone to the expense of having a unique helmet plate made with bolted on parts ,scroll and centre badge . Yet have what appear to be rather flimsy blades fitted to attach the badge to the helmet.
I presume that the blue helmet is of a universal pattern ,which allows balls or spikes ,chinstraps etc to be fitted as appropriate to Corps or Regiment.

What's it made of, AA, new metal or ?

The more recent it is might come with a decline in quality?

It does not match the quality of the example I have which has three lugs.

Neither does it meet MOD specifications for the standard bandsman plate for the blue cloth helmet which is fitted with 14mm threaded posts and wing nuts.

Many thanks for your comments. I am not convinced it is a band plate but at the same time still not 100% convinced it isn't. It is made of modern metal which is identical to the other 3 generic band helmet plates I have (2 of which came through official stores). The badge came in Firmin packaging and I have no doubts it is a genuine badge, the question is genuine what? The documentation Tim shows indicates 3 screw posts (12 o'clock, 3 o'clock & 9 o'clock positions) on the generic backing plate and that tallies with the 3 plates I have but the RLC band plate is not a generic plate because it has the crossed axes , an added "We Sustain" scroll and added silvered ordnance crest. As it is not a generic plate and unique to the RLC could that also mean that the means of attaching to the blue helmet could also be unique? I have no evidence for that plus the only RLC plate that I have seen the back of has got 3 lugs/loops as opposed to screw posts. The 3 lugs were positioned at 12 o'clock behind the crown and on the bottom left hand and bottom right hand rays which is not the same positions as the 3 screw posts. As usual more questions than answers but hopefully one of the Ordnance/RLC experts will be able to shed some light.

I believe they are Presentation Pieces with the blades fixing badge to a blue background in a blue hard case produced by Firmin from HP Badge Die.

Seller in your link is from Heywood not too far from me but is it real
