Hi All

Can anyone show me a set of Officers badges & buttons for the ICY from the post war period 1947-57 please? My Grandfather was a Major in the Regiment in that period and I have one photo of him in ICR uniform and I would like to collect a set from that period to go alongside his medals.

Major William Morgan-Jones E.R.D. (RAOC & ICR), 1901-79.

On the regimental designation.

This regiment was not (before 1961) part of the Yeomanry and never was titled as such. In the period you are interested in it was The Inns of Court Regiment.

Thanks Henk, I know nothing about this Regiment/Yeomanry. My Grandfather was a school Headmaster so it would make sense that the ICOTC is the one? He had been RAOC during WW2. My parents died when I was young so I have no family knowledge other than my Grandfather's medals and one photo of him in ICR uniform.

Well seeing the collar badge (it is a bit blurred) it could fit the Inns of Court Regiment.

It is a bit strange history. It was a Middlesex Rifle Volunteer Corps from 1860 (but existed earlier).
It should have become the 27th (County of London) Battalion (TF), The London Regiment in 1908, but ignored this and and became the Inns of Court OTC (TF) instead. It was resurrected in the TA as such.
In 1932 it had Cavalry as well as Infantry (but It wasn't Yeomanry) as The Inns of Court Regiment.
In 1940 it was transferred to the Royal Armoured Corps.

And my trial to compress this into a table: Middlesex - London

Nice set of medals BTW. Good that they are kept as family treasure.

Thanks Henk, my Father, Colonel in the RAVC, had them mounted by Spink & Co in 1980. My Mother had passed in 1980 and four years later he was gone (both to cancer). I have just sent off my Father's medals to get mounted .... hence my interest in getting an ICR set done for my Grandfather.
