Very nice. One of my favourite Yeomanry and badges.
With financing not centrally provided for Yeomanry utilisation of a single die/badge forming both collar and part of the cap badge must have been an attractive ergonomic decision. Here are a couple of my MIY cap badges in both GM and WM. The loops are in the same position as would be found on the collar badges, obviously without the scrolls. The WM badge is a bit of a Friday afternoon job with the wings not fully voided and tongue mis-stamped but for £40 I shouldn’t complain. |
thanks Luke. Nice badges you have. I did wonder if the collar was the same as the badge but without the scroll. Funny the cap badge is so hard to get

Thanks.
I don’t think they’re rare by Imperial Yeomanry standards, quite the opposite. The MIY badge was clearly worn and still issued long into the Territorial Yeomanry period, well past post-1908. Presumably this was whilst stocks of the old badge existed and partly accounts for why so many I.Y. variants are found with sliders. Moreover I think these badges are universally overpriced on dealers lists. Checking various sites just now there are currently 6 genuine examples for sale priced £125-190 which I believe ranges from overpriced to downright ridiculous. The GM badge is definitely scarcer than the WM version however, and slidered examples more common than loop fixings. Strangely rarest of all is the post 1908 M.Y. badge which I still have not encountered a genuine example of in GM. |
That is why I don't have one,, £125 at a minimum for what is perhaps not that rare a badge. Glad I was to get the collar for £20.

They’re definitely out there and can be had at fraction of the price on eBay with a bit of luck.

I’ve never paid more than £60 for a MIY, often less than half that.
Next one I see I’ll tip you the wink. |

Lovely clear photo. Thanks for showing.

Glad to share it.

I think that rather more were made than ever actually issued, certainly from memory, one dealer recently had about half a dozen on his site at truly astonishing prices ranging from £150 to £190, which is, of course, perhaps the reason he had them.

Which is why I have yet to buy one

Well, you don't want to pay too much, but, they are out there, I think I have only encountered examples on loops with three fixing points upon the scroll, rather than two, although, that is not to say they do not actually exist, I should try and get one of those if I were you.
