Major's crowns - what have I got
 

Hi All,

I've just picked these up but can anyone tell me which Regiment wore the red one and what is the other one?

I was wondering if it was WW1 or is it home made or even real?

In my opinion, they are probably not original, although they are unlike any copies that I can recall.
The QVC might have a chance if the reverse could be seen, but then I have never seen a period original that was anything like it.
The KC SD crown is of very poor construction and again unlike any original I know of.
Neither have any age toning or wear to them either.

A few examples of King’s and Queen’s Crowns amongst these. The variations are infinite as most were supplied by tailor’s shops up until the 1970s. Red or scarlet backed crowns and pips were worn on Battle Dress and slip-on rank slides etc by many infantry regiments amongst others. Your King’s Crown example looks hand made and early 20th century.

The KC is hand embroidered as all were prior to ww2, and sometimes into ww2 and even beyond that.
The quality is nothing like any I have ever seen, although some locally made (India, Egypt etc.) have been quite crude as well.

On the left is QE2 not QVC

one on the right is good for a Second World War locally made piece probably Indian - I have a few near identical examples

Would certainly agree that it must be QE2, although the most unusual in shape example I have ever seen. Far more like the QVC.
Not sold on the KC however.

Thanks for the replies so far everyone, the red one came as a pair so I'll photograph both of them front and back tomorrow and see if that helps any.

The KC was bought on the local market in the hope that it may be good, I thought it was similar to the attached photo.

Here's photos of the pair of crowns, they came with some Royal Signals bits but didn't their badges have blue backings?

Very common to find locally made ones like this and completely right for WW2 and as far as I not not yet copied

I agree with everyone, red backing is Infantry, RAOC, RA, RMP and no doubt others post 1953 and I also agree the KC crown is almost definitely made in India, I have various British and Indian slip ons from India prior to 1947 that have this type of crown
