WRAC Question

Hi All,

Can anyone help me get past my mental blockage?

I want to include ATS and WRAC in my display to do with the Military Police. I have cap badges but am now thinking I need to add shoulder titles.

I have seen the ATS shoulder badges but for the life of me I can't remember WRAC wearing WRAC shoulder titles. Does such a thing exist or would they just wear the titles of the unit they were attached to, in this case RMP?

I can remember them wearing a collar dog as a badge on their chest, was that it? Is there no such thing as the WRAC shoulder title?

I have just got the "modern" staybrite WRAC cap badge, should I also be looking for a brass, kings crown version?

Thanks a lot,

Michael

Hello,

They wore WRAC post 1949.

There was a bi-metal K/C and a bi-metal Q/C version of the cap badge.

The use of the collar badge on their chest was to denote which regt or corps they were assigned to.

I think you will find that the Armlet is on the wrong sleeve.

Was that brass letters or the cloth slip on's?

Thanks a lot for the photo Harry but I have in the dim distant corner of my mind that the ATS Provost was a slightly different thing.

I'll have to google it.

I've just found the bit I was thinking of, it was on the Cheshire and North wales branch of the RMPA website. I think if I'm reading it right it is basically saying the Provost title was only worn by the women:

ATS Officers and Auxiliaries would not have worn the titles of Corps/Regiments to which they were attached, this only applied to the wearing of cap badges or collar badges above the tunic pocket by some units. (This was at the discretion of the CO of the parent Regiment, not a general rule).

The "PROVOST" title worn by the ATS Provost Wing was unique to the ATS, it was not a title used by the Corps of Military Police.

It should be noted, the "ATS Provost" were a Military Police Wing in their own right.

With their own title, worn by both Officers and Auxiliaries.
There were three types;

1) "PROVOST" in black lettering on a scarlet rectangle worn on the upper sleeve of SD and BD.

2) "PROVOST" in black lettering on a curved scarlet title which was worn by ATS and WRAC Provost.

3) "PROVOST" in black on a scarlet slip-on title worn on KD uniforms.

The title was normally worn in addition to "ATS" on the epaulette.

The "PROVOST" in black lettering on a curved scarlet title which was worn by ATS and WRAC Provost seemS to be both scarce and expensive as some dealers sell them as being worn by Airborne Provost Units.

Is there any photographic or documentary evidence to support the Airborne connection?

Here is a picture of the collection I'm preparing laid out roughly on a board.

The ATS and WRAC badges are in the bottom right, I know I need to get the ATS shoulder title, I'm just wondering what if anything should go with the WRAC one.

I'm also going to try and get a KC WRAC badge to put in between them.
