Help ID a Cap Badge
 

Hi All,

I've been told this is a relative who died in 1915, can anyone identify the cap badge?

If it is the man I've been told it is it should be the East Yorkshire Regiment.

What do we think?

The cap badge looks like South Lancashire Regiment.

I didn't think it was East Yorkshire Regiment but needed some other opinions.

I think the person who has the photo has maybe got the people mixed up, now I just need to find a relative who was in the South Lancs.

Period could well be correct- simplified jacket and possibly wire removed SD cap would be ok for 1915. Badge does though look South Lancs. Regards, Paul.

I have to disagree on the badge being SLR. The top is more rounded than the SLR badge and, to my eyes, it is the Northamptonshire Regiment.

If he died in 1915 and we have a name, which presumably the original poster has, we can check the CWGC website and then we will know.

Please would the original poster give us his name and all other details they have on his life/service/death.

It is the cap badge of the South Lancashire Regiment, the oval shape and wide Prince of Wales feathers over two scrolls are clear on my screen!

A very delayed thanks for the help everyone, I'm really sorry but I didn't get a notification of the replies for some reason.

The relative I have been told it is is Pte 3/5478 Charles English of the 2nd Bn East Yorkshire Regiment.

I still don't think the cap badge is correct to be him and I've found no trace of him having moved between regiments, nor have I found any other relative (so far) who served with either the South Lancashires or the Northamptonshires.

No breast pocket pleats or rifle shoulder patches on the tunic worn in the photo in post no. 1 - memory fails here, - was that economy modification brought in by in by the date KIA in April 1915?

Post on GWF states :

"produced from October 1914 and were made until around July of 1915"
