Hi, This was a training ship for the SA Navy until just after WW2. I have a belt buckle of this ship. Wouldn't mind getting one like this. Thank you for the post. Regards Andrew

General Botha badges

Hi
I've am quite interested in the GB badges and have done a bit of research. In total there were 17 different badges worn by staff members and trainees. I can't quite make out the colour behind the General Botha title but it appears to be dark navy blue which would date the badge to 1947 - 1960. If the colour is dark sea-green it would be c.1933 - 1947. The colour changed when the college moved to Gordons Bay. It is a cadets badge worn on the step out uniform cap. The working dress cap badge was just the letters GB in yellow cotton beneath a naval coronet on a black oval felt backing. The badge you have is probably the most common one, but they are still very scarce.
Cheers.
Alex
